چکیده

Case Report: A 78-year-old male with relapsed Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia following therapy with chlorambucil underwent a five-week course of TBI. The total dose delivered was 1.5 Gy, given as 0.15 Gy twice weekly for ten sessions. During the course of therapy his CD4 cells increased from 637 (cells/mm3) to 808 partly through treatment and then declined to 654 at the completion of therapy. The CD4:CD8 ratio increased from 1.3 at the start to 1.7 at completion of therapy. His IgM levels declined from 4040 to 1640 following treatment and he became symptom-free. Other than transient thrombocytopenia, no acute or late side effects were noted.

Effect of dose-rate and lung dose in total body irradiation on interstitial pneumonitis after bone marrow transplantation.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of interstitial pneumonitis following fractionated total body irradiation conditioning for bone marrow transplantation with varying lung doses due to shielding technique and different dose-rates. Between 1987 and 2001, a total number of 105 patients have received total body irradiation conditioning for bone marrow transplantation for hematologi...

Using research in primary care: a workbook for health professionals

Similar effects on murine haemopoietic compartment of low dose rate single dose and high dose rate fractionated total body irradiation. Summary This study was designed to compare two different modalities of TBI which are currently used in clinical practice. The same dose of 750 cGy was given to CBA mice either in a single dose at a low dose rate (4 cGy min-') (STBI) or in a fractionated regimen...

Curcumin Stimulates the Antioxidant Mechanisms in Mouse Skin Exposed to Fractionated γ-Irradiation

Fractionated irradiation is one of the important radiotherapy regimens to treat different types of neoplasia. Despite of the immense therapeutic gains accrued by delivering fractionated irradiation to tumors, the radiation burden on skin increases significantly. Low doses of irradiation to skin adversely affect its molecular and metabolic status. The use of antioxidant/s may help to alleviate t...

Fractionated Total Body Irradiation and High-Dose Etoposide as a Preparatory Regimen for Bone Marrow Transplantation

Ninety-nine consecutive patients with acute leukemia in first complete remission under age 50 (median age 27 years; age range 1 to 4 7 years) with a histocompatible sibling donor were treated with fractionated total body irradiation (1,320 cGy) and high-dose etoposide (60 mg/kg) followed by allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. Sixty-one patients were diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia...

Comparison of fractionated to single-dose total body irradiation in conditioning canine littermates for DLA-identical marrow grafts.

We explored the ability of fractionated total body irradiation (TBI) given at a rate of 7 cGy/min from opposing dual 60Co sources at otherwise lethal doses of 450, 600, 700, 800, and 920 cGy to condition dogs for marrow grafts from DLA-identical littermates. Results were compared with those of a previously reported study using single-dose TBI administered under otherwise identical conditions. F...
